Clearview raise £2,647.60 for SENSE charity

29 Jul 2010 - Stephen McKay

On a gloriously sunny Saturday in April Clearview put their best feet forward and took on the SENSE Ridge Walk challenge for deafblind people.

Sense is the leading national charity that supports and campaigns for children and adults who are deafblind. They provide expert advice and information as well as specialist services to deafblind people, their families, carers and the professionals who work with them. They also support people who have sensory impairments with additional disabilities.

The Clearview team of 11, a combination of walkers and a support crew, trekked 31 miles and climbed 2,300 feet across the oldest road in Britain, The Ridgeway.

The walk began at 10:00 a.m. in bright sunshine, amidst an atmosphere of excitement and trepidation, knowing that we wanted to complete the walk in order to support the charity as much as possible but also knowing that none of us had walked so far before on such a challenging trail.

As the day passed both anecdotes and blister plasters were shared out in equal measure and limbs grew ever more tired. However spirits and determination remained high and won the day. By 9:45 p.m. in complete darkness the last few Clearview walkers crossed the line to complete the walk. The team finished a respectable 11th out of the 26 teams participating.

The aim was to raise as much money as possible for SENSE and we would like to thank our sponsors and everybody who donated and help raise the total amount of £2,647.60.
